Tax Law

2018 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) Update

(COPPELL, TEXAS – OCTOBER 5th, 2018) On September 21st, 2018 the U.S. Internal Revenue Service issued a much-anticipated update about whether payments and reimbursements received in 2018 for 2017 relocations would be subject to the old tax law or the new tax law. The decision stated the payments and reimbursements received in 2018 for 2017 would NOT be subject to the new tax law, which went into effect January 1st, 2018. These payments are not to be included as income to the employee in 2018.

If employers have already included these amounts in the employee’s income as employment taxes, they can use the Section 6413 adjustment process or the Section 6401 refund claim process to correct the overpayment of federal employment taxes.

This news is a positive development for employers and transferees, as both can avoid taxes on relocation payments in 2018 for moves that took place in 2017.

VERSA Welcomes New Relocation Consultants to the Team

(COPPELL – August 7, 2018) VERSA recently announced the addition of Relocation Consultant, Angie Medina and Associate Relocation Consultant, Leslie Escobar. Medina and Escobar are primarily responsible for ensuring VERSA clients’ transferees receive an exceptional relocation experience, from start to finish.

Medina began in the relocation industry in 1987, working with Brokers and Appraisers as an analyst. She transitioned to her role as a Relocation Consultant in 2008, assisting relocating employees with Buyer- Value Option and full Home Sale benefits. Her relocation industry experience also includes accounting, affinity services and corporate relocation. Medina treats all customers with respect, and works to keep them informed and updated on their move status. Her goal is to assist customers in maximizing their benefits and a smooth transition to their destination.

Escobar began her career in the relocation industry in 2016, as a national account move coordinator handling all aspects of corporate relocation, including residential moving and corporate housing. Escobar is fluent in Spanish and thrives in fast paced environments. By using compassion, dedication, and industry knowledge, Escobar provides phenomenal customer service, making the relocation process seamless.

Salter possesses over 36 years of experience in the relocation management industry and is a proven visionary leader with a diverse background in global corporate and government mobility. She serves as a catalyst for positive change, providing leadership based on an inverted pyramid philosophy and active employee engagement. She prides herself on infusing organizations with customer-centric policies, by which service is a top priority.
